WORK INJURY BENEFIT (WIBA) ACT
This policy provides cover for the employer’s legal liability to employees under the Workmen’s Compensation Act, for death, bodily injury or illness arising out of and in the course of employment.
In Kenya, the Act stipulates that insurance cover must be in place for all employees earning below (up to) Kshs 400,000 per annum (Kshs 33,333 per month), and is therefore a legal requirement.
Scope of cover (Maximum benefits under the policy)
» Death - 96 months earnings
» Total Disability - 96 months earnings
» Temporary Disability - 50% of weekly earnings
» Medical expenses - Kshs 30,000
It is important to note that this is an occupational only cover and the death, injury or illness must arise in the course of the employment (duties to the employer) and not outside employment hours.
